![]() Task manager this time would NOT open, yet I was able to Right click on a desktop icon and delete it. (for over 20+ minutes)I checked again 25 minutes and it was the usual "Partial frozen". (Btw-CPU settled quickly 3% and memory 17%)Hard disk activity light continued constantly, however. Tried from Safe Mode, Windows says no can do.Tried same with booting from a MCT created USB drive, doesn't hang, but Windows reports it can't fix/repair.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! After boot (which I assume is still in "Clean Boot") I checked it at the 15 minute mark by Right click on Taskbar, Left Click on Task Manager, it opened ok. Ran CCleaner, cleaned everything including Registry, all ok.Checked Device Manager (in Safe mode) for Hardware errors, found 4, disabled all, reboot to normal mode, no improvement.Tried "Non Destructive Repair of Windows" with Media Creation Tool, per this expert:Tried 3 different ways Normal and Clean boot "hangs" on first "System Clean up before Closing", PC is "partially" frozen as described above. Let me know if any are there. The problematic Device Manager items are highly unlikely to be a contributing factor, though you will need to address those eventually once the main problem is fixed to get full functionality back.Is this a Brand computer or a generic PC clone? If a brand name, please include the model number in your next post.Do you have a spare GPU you could temporarily try to eliminate that as well? If not, let me know and I'll let you know how the existing one can be tested, though that may be difficult if the freezes happen after 5 minutes of using the PC.If I had to take a guess, then I'm leaning towards the graphics card as being the problem here only because the problem isn't happening in Safe Mode when the computer is operating in low resolution.Edited by achzone, 15 September 2021 - 02:50 AM.Installed a video card (M/B has "onboard" graphics), Initially seemed better, no "partial freezing" for over 20 minutes, but ultimately acted as before. Still can't rule out the PSU when put under load, but it's now less likely.Yes, I would definitely try the spare PSU just to eliminate the existing one as the problem.I wouldn't be too concerned about the HDD activity at this stage but if this is something new you've noticed, then have a quick look scrolling down in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System category and look for any warnings or errors that have "Disk" as the Source. (I think!) If not, the flagged items are:Microsoft Hyper-V Virtualization Infrastructure driverEdited by Kewpycat, 14 September 2021 - 08:00 PM.That test narrows it down a bit to make the most likely culprits either the GPU or CPU overheating or a fault has developed in the GPU. But, that was before the problem started.I should add to the list of things I did was TRY was to install an update, which failed, and now, at boot up it stops briefly at "Getting Windows ready", 35%, Don't turn off your computer", so that's stuck now, but the problems started beforehand (although my perception is that it's worse now).As to Device Manager errors, I'll get it back to Safe Mode and report on that. Also, if you think it worthwhile, I do have a spare PSU I could try, but what do you think about the 20 minutes of HDD activity, any concern there?Edit: Screenshot of Device Manager in safe mode attached. Although I hadn't done it for a while, it wasn't too bad. Google keep for mac os xSEVERAL HOURS LATER: Computer still working fine!!!! I even let it sit for a while, came back, STILL WORKING OK!!!!! Bingo!!!!!!!!The "Smoking gun" I thought!!!!!! The browser's to blame, or so it seemed!!! (it's not the latest version, I won't update it because they dropped a favorite feature).Used the PC for a little longer, no problems, (was getting optimistic at that point) then I loaded a page that HAD been my usual "Starting" page (minutes later, PARTIALLY FROZEN AGAIN! (Still in Edge browser, DID NOT load Slimjet at all)This after about 4 hours of no problems!!!! Unbelievable!Having said that, it HAD frozen many times before WITHOUT loading Excite, so I don't know where that leads, if anywhere. One other bit of "history" regarding Excite:About a week before the PC troubles started, the Excite page often started crashing with an "Out of memory" error, but that only happened if it was the lone tab opened. And of course, I can't open a different browser (or any app)I can open "My Computer" and open some contents there, but I can't open Control panel or Task Manager (or other things) from Start button.I can click on Start button, type (for example) MSCONFIG, (and it'll find it), but no result when clicking on it.The list goes on and on-some things work, some don't.Then I had the idea that maybe my "preferred" browser (Flashpeak's Slimjet, Chrome engine) was somehow corrupted and to blame, so I didn't open it and used only MS Edge. Txt file (or anything) on desktop.I browser is open, I can navigate to different web pages from within an OPEN tab, but if I open a NEW tab, the tab appears, but nothing will load in it. Txt file on desktop and delete it, but I can't open an existing. ![]() Malwarebytes 10.6 Trial Only AllowsNote that the trial only allows for 15 minutes of continuous testing.
